About Coffeehouse

Nestled in the lower section of Place Maillardville is a bright spacious room that on Thursdays between 12:15 and 1:30 is transformed into an energetic, yet cozy, coffeehouse, where anyone can come to eat their lunch and enjoy an afternoon of live music and entertainment, dancing, a time to socialize, have refreshments, and maybe even win a door prize.

In 1997 the Society in partnership with Parks and Recreation created “an event in the Coquitlam area in which the local community and CISS could actively participate and enjoy an afternoon of music and socialization.”  They did indeed come up with a very successful weekly activity. Eventually CISS independently ran this weekly event.

Java with Friends not only provides consumers of CISS with a variety of job skills opportunities and responsibilities, it is also a place where they can enjoy what they enjoy most of all, music and friends. Three musicians play music from 12:30—1:30p.m. and always keep the dance floor hopping with their upbeat tunes.  Members of the community are encouraged to join in the fun.
